Sometimes I’d really like it if Wolverine could just read my mind.
The single biggest takeaway I got from pre-marital counseling was that men and women communicate differently. Men, I was told, need very direct communication. If I want something from Wolverine, I should tell him in plain English.
So I’ve tried and am mostly successful, I think. I tend to be pretty candid to begin with, but there are times, even when I think I’m being straight as an arrow, it still goes right over Wolverine’s head. This causes much frustration.
It causes him much frustration, too.
Sometimes, just sometimes, I wish I didn’t have to think about how to communicate in such a way that he will understand. I wish that what I say is just understood.
This post was inspired by the novel Afterwards by Rosamund Lupton. After witnessing her children’s school set ablaze, Grace attempts to find the arson as her teenage daughter lies in a coma in Lupton’s suspense thriller. Join From Left to Write on April 11 as we discuss Afterwards. As a member, I received a copy of the book for review purposes.
